The game was developed under the creative leadership of Brendan ” PlayerUnknown “Greene, who had previously developed several mods for other electronic games inspired by the movie Battle Royale, 2000.
The game consists of up to a hundred players who fall from parachutes on an island in search of weapons and equipment in order to kill other players while trying to survive the same.The playing area progressively slows down, confining the survivors to a shrinking space and forcing encounters.The last player or surviving team wins. The game allows both first-person and third-person prospects.
The game was released in March 2017 for Microsoft Windows on Steam’s early-access platform, selling more than 18 million copies in the first eight months, and reaching a peak of more than 2 million concurrent players in the end of 2017, being the most played game of the platform until then. The PUBG Corp.released version 1.0 of the game on December 20, 2017, and the Xbox version was released on December 12 through the Xbox Game Preview program.
The game was generally well received by critics, being nominated for “game of the year” while still in early release, but receiving comments regarding bugs still present after the exit access.
